Naireeta Services Private Limited (NSPL) is a Gujarat-based social enterprise responsible for the Bhungroo, a women-led irrigation system that relies on rainwater harvesting and tackles the issues of water scarcity, gender inequality, and poverty. During climate change induced events such as flash flood in regions with non-porous soils, water logging reduces soil fertility, affecting agricultural productivity and ultimately farmer income. The Bhungroo system ensures lifelong food security and doubling of income for marginal and small landholding farmers alongwith greater participation in local governance and natural resource management.

NSPL and its team members have won several accolades for their work, including the World Bank Development Marketplace award, Ashoka changemaker fellowship, Rockefeller Foundation Centennial Innovation Challenge Award, and several awards from the govt. of India.

NSPL has thus partnered with SGI for modelling and assessment of potential Bhungroo development sites; development of training manuals, SOPs, and ICT-based tools; impact assessment and evaluation services; and knowledge management services across the SAARC and ASEAN nations.  Publication of relevant papers and a multi-volume book, and industry outreach activities for climate resilient agriculture shall also be conducted, and ultimately, policy recommendations and best practices for incorporating Bhungroo in existing state and central schemes shall be issued. Recommendations for engaging other players such as banks, apex bodies, philanthropists, impact investors, microfinance institutions, and developmental bodies shall also be disseminated.
